Martin Shaw obtained a degree in Oenology in 1981 and undertook post-graduate study at the University of Bordeaux in 1985. Early in his career he worked at Petaluma prior to setting up the "Flying Winemakers" network in France, Spain, Italy, Chile and New Zealand. In 1989, he started Shaw + Smith with cousin Michael Hill Smith. Martin is Joint Managing Director of Shaw + Smith and Tolpuddle Vineyard and he oversees all aspects of grape growing and winemaking.
Michael Hill Smith was the first Australian to pass the rigorous Master of Wine examination. In 2008 he was awarded an Order of Australia for his contribution to the Australian Wine Industry. Featured on Decanter Magazine’s power list 2009, 2011 and 2013. Michael is an international wine judge, wine consultant and strong advocate for Australian fine wine both within Australia and internationally.
David LeMire MW is a wine business professional with experience in retail, distribution, and brand management. A two year stint in London in the mid 90s gave him a 'eurocentric' palate, which he further developed in Australia in his roles with Negociants Australia, a leading importer of fine wine to Australia. He has run his own consulting business, has a share of a small wine production business, writes regular columns for Australia's Wine Business Magazine, is an irregular wine show judge, and is co-convenor of the Australasian Institute of Masters of Wine Educational Seminar.
Adam Wadewitz, one of Australia's brightest winemaking talents, has worked in the Adelaide Hills, Geelong, McLaren Vale, and the Hunter Valley in addition to stints in France, Chile and the USA. Over the last 6 years he has made a reputation for himself in Great Western at Seppelts and Best's where he vinified the 2012 Jimmy Watson Winner, the 2011 Best's Bin 1 Shiraz. Adam's CV is an enviable one. He was joint Dux of the Len Evans Tutorial 2009, Gourmet Traveller WINE Winemaker of the Year Finalist 2010, Young Gun of Wine Finalist 2011 and has judged at the prestigious capital city wine shows.
Murray is one of the Adelaide Hill’s most respected viticulturists. Having established a number of premium vineyards, he has also improved viticulture in the region during his time as regional chair of the viticultural committee. He is an Adelaide University graduate, completing a Bachelor of Science majoring in Viticulture.
Before joining Shaw + Smith in 2015, he worked for Adelaide Hills winery Nepenthe Wines and then Australian Vintage Ltd when they merged in 2007. In addition to the Adelaide Hills, he has worked extensively in the Barossa Valley, Clare, Coonawarra, Eden Valley, Langhorne Creek and Padthaway while managing all vineyards and growers for the group.
